California Grapevine is an independent, discriminating buying guide to premium California wine sold only by mail subscription. We publish six times a year and each issue contains 20 pages packed with information. Subscription rate is $36 for one year and $66 for two years.

Features in Each Issue

Tasting Notes on New Releases - Our detailed tasting notes are based on double-blind tastings by our highly respected tasting panel. In each issue we report on the results of twelve to fourteen tastings conducted during the two months prior to the publication date. We report on new releases of Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir (including all the major Pinots from Oregon), Merlot, and Sauvignon Blanc in every issue. We also report periodically on other popular varietals such as Syrah, Viognier, Gewürztraminer, and Sangiovese. We also publish the suggested retail price, percent alcohol, number of cases produced, varietal composition, and release date on each wine we review. And we identify if a wine is only sold at the winery tasting room or through their mailing list. Click here for sample from our current issue.

Wine Competition Results - In addition to the tasting notes from our own wine tastings, we also periodically report on the results from the major wine competitions where wines compete for bronze, silver, and gold medals. By assigning points to the medals we are able to rank the top medal-winning wines. We are the only wine newsletter to offer this feature. Click here for top medal winners in 2001.
